Your Questions About Fatigue

Mark asks…

How to lose a fatigue death, should it do it?

How to lose a fatigue death, should it do it?

??fatigue death???KAROUSI?

Insomnia Stress answers:

There is a Disease called ,

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

But medication, anti-depressants, all help,

I never heard of it,

killing some one with it.
~*~*~*~*~Peace.

Sandra asks…

Can you take vitamin b12 shots solely for fatigue?

Does anyone here take vitamin b12 shots only for fatigue and nothing else? I am always tired but I went to do blood tests and found nothing. Would it be safe to give myself a shot once a week?

Insomnia Stress answers:

If you are having a fatigue problem B-12 is a really good thing to try. I have had this all my life, and was 50 before I found B-12.

I take a daily B-12/B-6/Folic acid tablet that disolves under the tongue. Humans do not absorb B-12 very well from the stomach. I get my pills from a mail-order company called TriVita —you might also get them from a health-food store.

You might cut down to 1/2 tab after a week or so –I have.

The stuff is MAGIC if that is your problem. I read that 10% of people have a severe B-12 shortage that doesn’t show up on blood tests. The effect is instant. Fatigue was my only problem! Good luck!!

(TriVita is in Arizona, USA,1-800-991-7116)

Steven asks…

How many fatigue failures were there in the automotive sector in 2005?

By fatigue failures, I mean failure of a part(s), not fatigue of the driver. Can’t seem to find any data directly through google. If anyone knows where or how I could find this data out, it would be greatly appreciated!

Insomnia Stress answers:

Cant see how or why that total would be recorded by anyone anywhere.

Robert asks…

Is It Normal to Feel Fatigue in and after Exercise like martial arts?

I m of 20 year
After having martial arts like Kyokushin Karate(for 2.5 hr) i feel tired ,muscles starches at joints usually for the 15 hours.I usually increase my sleep form 7hr to 12hr.I usually feel depressed and upset due to fatigue and take the aggressive behavior. My face also becomes week
Please guide me about it with healthy tips?

Insomnia Stress answers:

Ofcourse its normal to be fatigued after long periods of exercise especially if ur a beginner. If u are a beginner ur body just needs time get used to prolonged exercise. MAs utilizes most of the muscles in ur body. U should think about how u can improve ur diet. U should also consult ur dr to make sure its not from an underlying condition. Good luck

Laura asks…

What is the best diet for somenone who suffers from chronic fatigue?

I was looking at a low carb diet but apparently that can lead to fatigue also. I dont know what to do??

Insomnia Stress answers:

For me, the best way is a very healthy vegetable based diet (high nutrition, low calorie) and plenty of daily walking. No naps and a capsule of valerian root before bed. On those occasions where I get a decent night’s sleep, the fibromyalgia symptoms (including fatigue) are minimized. It’s slowly getting better, the more I stick with the diet and the more I walk, the better I sleep and the better I feel the next day.

Your Questions About Stress Management

Charles asks…

How can our government (Australia) can create ways to give our children better psychological health?

I would like to hear about ways schools, media, churches, clubs, correction centres etc.ect. can create better social skills, self esteem, problem solving skills and stress management skills, anger managment ect. ect. in our children

Insomnia Stress answers:

I for one believe so much violence on TV can cause stress and anger acting out in children.

I think parenting classes dealing with modern problems children have would be important.

In college child psychology classes helped me deal with turoring low esteem children. Some schools and churches have classes to help children deal with divorce in the home.

Schools here in the USA just recently are saying children should be taught how to think and do problem solving instead of just following the school routine.

Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and after school clubs in many areas should help with self esteem and social skills.

Donald asks…

What should I name my middle school boys counseling group?

Can someone please, please help me with the three sentences Eglish is my second language so i will appreciat i?

Can someone please, help me with this, English is my second language and i would appreciate it greatly.

One of the topics include “professional concerns”, which center around the idea that a nonprofessional in stress management undertake clients to reduce their stress.

That only experienced counselors or health professionals should go into stress management services.

This article demonstrates the varies approaches to stress management that health professionals, therapists and counselors can utilize for their patients
If someone can restate them, thank you !!!

Insomnia Stress answers:

Corrections are noted with ; comments are noted with ( )
First Sentence:
One of the topics include “professional concerns”, which center around the idea that a nonprofessional in stress management undertake clients to reduce their stress.

One of the topics (“One” is the subject so the verb needs to be conjugated in the third person singular) “professional concerns”(comma goes inside quotations in American English) which (subject is still “one”) around the idea that a nonprofessional in stress management (“a nonprofessional” is the subject, so the verb should be conjugated in the third person singular. Also, consider using a different word) clients (might help to add that) reduce their stress.

Second sentence:
That only experienced counselors or health professionals should go into stress management services.

This sentence is a fragment. Putting “that” at the beginning of the sentence makes it a dependent clause, meaning that you should either revise the sentence or add an independent clause. The rest of it is fine.

Third sentence:
This article demonstrates the varies approaches to stress management that health professionals, therapists and counselors can utilize for their patients.

This article demonstrates the approaches to stress management that health professionals, therapists and counselors can utilize for their patients.

Sandra asks…

What should I present on for a Faculty Teaching position in the Health Science field?

I have been invited to do sample teaching presentation to be considered for a Faculty position in the Health Science field. I thought about doing a presentation on Stress Management but I’m not sure if this is appropriate. This suppose to be presented as if it’s to actual students in a classroom setting. Do you this a presentation on Stress Management will be appropriate or do you suggest something else? I am open to all suggestions and opinions!! THANKS

Insomnia Stress answers:

Health Science Field is an extremely broad field.

Do your presentation based on what part of that field you wish to be in.

For example.
Phyocoligical Health Science – do something along with this.
Muscle Health Science – do something along with this.

Steven asks…

How should I talk to my counselor?

Okay, so I have my very. first. ever meeting with a counselor (psychologist) like next week. I’m going to ask for some stress management tips KNOWING that anxiety runs bad in my family and that everyone tells me I most likely have it because of how.. stressed I tend to get and how worried about every. little. detail I can be. Should I tell her about this? =/ Or should I keep it to myself.

Insomnia Stress answers:

Giving the counselor as much information as possible makes it possible for the counselor to do a better job and help you explore more options. It also gives you the opportunity to express what you’re thinking and get it off your chest. Getting everything out may help build trust and confidence in the solutions since there’s no missing data.

Btw – ‘worried about every. Little. Detail’ sounds a little like OCD or OCPD. There may be other approaches than simply stress management.

Good luck

Your Questions About Sleepless In Seattle

Steven asks…

What happens on the top of the Empire State Building? Why is it so special?

Why would a guy want to take a girl up to the top of the Empire State Building? He asked me if I saw Sleepless in Seattle. What happened there? We didn’t end up going. The touristy part of it killed the romance. I went up to the top of the Eiffel Tower with a guy and we ended up breaking up in Paris. Part of me is glad I didn’t go up to the Empire State Building with him, but… what normally happens up there?

Insomnia Stress answers:

Guys need marks in their romances a lot different from girls. We remember the day we went up here or there with our girlfriend. We admire solid things for the greatness of the place and if we can share our admiration with our girlfriend is very nice. Something so simple can latter on in life make a perfect day to talk about. Like ‘Do you remember the day we were up there right on the top of the Empire State Building?’. Than he takes a photo and will give you that long and passionate kiss. A girl will remember those days many times in life. In detail!
Sometimes girls anxiously expect so much from occasions and in the end they forget to pay attention to the occasions we create:)
Having trouble with someone on the top of Eiffel Tower its not the tower’s fault:) Is very easy to brake relations when traveling. The same way is easy to start a relation traveling.
Guys and girls are a lot different in some issues. No one is better or worse. Guys are a lot complicated to. We are very subtil in our wishes. When we suggest something is because is quite important somewhere. We just want company and…we can explain it in the right moment when asked in the right moment. It takes sometime to get to know one another. Isn’t it?
In is shoes I would have gone up by myself and left you down.:)))
I’m hopeless and a lost case:))).

Robert asks…

Which of these Meg Ryan movies is your favorite?

I have 5 Meg Ryan movies that I think are great. They are You’ve Got Mail, French Kiss, Sleepless in Seattle, Kate & Leopold and Joe vs. the Volcano. I made a top romantic movies video for youtube and decided to make a second one. I already featured one of her movies in the first one which is When Harry Met Sally. I want to put another one in my second video. Which one should I choose?

Insomnia Stress answers:

I.Q
Down With Love
French Kiss

David asks…

Movies have always explored the questions of love?

What do you think of the movies’ portrayal of love?…………

1. Can men and women be just friends?
{When Harry met Sally}

2. Do you need to be accepted by your partner’s parents?
{Meet the Parents}

3. Can love last a lifetime?
{The Notebook}

4. Is there one perfect person for everyone?
{Sleepless in Seattle}

Insomnia Stress answers:

They all give one piece of a complicated puzzle, don’t they? They press certain buttons on us, hit issues that make us think, and maybe force us to reexamine our own views. The Notebook is the best chick flick of all time, and it made me think how cool it would be if my 21 year marriage lasted a full lifetime. Ghost was a great movie, and made me think that we’d better cherish who we have now, because there is no promise they will always be there. About Last Night is a personal favorite, because it shows how insecure love is when we are young…and pretty much described the beginning of my relationship with my wife.

Donna asks…

What are some older movies that are like romantic comedies?

Your Questions About Insomnia

Sandra asks…

Can you explain me some things about insomnia?

1.Can you die from Insomnia?

2.What’s the record of someone being awake with not even one minute of sleep?

3.Sleeping in the morning (around 6) and wake up afternoon around 16:00 is it insomnia?

Insomnia Stress answers:

1) Yes. There is a rare genetic disease called fatal familial insomnia where people simply stop being able to sleep and eventually die of insomnia- though it’s only seen in about 50 families worldwide, so you’d know if you were at risk for it.

2) Sufferers of FFI sometimes go completely without sleep for up to a year before dying- I don’t know about normal people who don’t have the disease, but I think that sometimes researchers studying sleep patterns will keep people awake for several days at once.

3) No, because you’re getting plenty of sleep, just not at the “normal” time. It might be a sleep disorder of some kind, but not insomnia.

James asks…

Can taking high doses of ibuprofen cause insomnia?

I’ve started taking 6 ibuprofen pills a day (as prescribed by my doctor) and have started having massive insomnia issues ever since. I googled it and found out that long-term use of ibuprofen could cause insomnia, but I’ve only been taking them for less than a week. Could this be related anyway?

Insomnia Stress answers:

Ibuprofen is just a COX blocker. COX doesn’t really have any play in sleep. I am trying to make connections with prostaglandins and stuff further down the line after COX that might stop you from relaxing but I can’t come up with anything. So, to answer your question: I don’t see any conceptual link to insomnia with ibuprofen.

Chris asks…

Does anyone suffer from Insomnia and if so what has helped you?

I suffer from Insomnia, from as early as I can remember. I have tried alot of things like relaxation, not getting on the internet before bed time, reading a boring book, etc. I use Tylenol PM, (2) every night in order to get a good nights rest, even though I know that it is harmful to my liver. I have taken them for the past 4 years now. I am looking for other alternatives, herbal, home remedies, anything that will help with this problem. Thanks in advance!
Do I need a prescription for melatonin?
Wanted to mention also that sometimes I can fall sleep very easily. It is staying asleep that causes me the problems. I wake up every 20 minutes and just stare at the clock. I have wondered also why the Tylenol PM still works as it seems my body would not react to it any longer but without it, I could be up for days. I don’t drink coffee, tea, etc. Only water. I have seen 2 Doctors before and they tell me that if Tylenol works, continue on and that is what I am confused about. I don’t take any other medications just a vitamin in the mornings. I just don’t want to depend on them, like I have been. By the way, I have 2 Elementary aged children, full time business, and a job; so I have to function right everyday. Thanks everyone for your answers!

Insomnia Stress answers:

For one I would highly recommend seeing your doctor about the medication. It is very damaging to your liver with prolonged use. Ask your doc to get you off them with any other means.

In Oriental Medicine, insomnia can be caused by a number of things. It could be that you either have too much going through your mind and you find it hard to shut off, or it could be a nutritional thing that is stimulating your stomach energy.

Either way, your body is out of balance. If you can get yourself to an Acupuncturist or a good Shiatsu therapist they should not only be able to help physically with re-balancing things, but also be able to recommend lifestyle changes to help bring you back to balance.

I wish I could help but without further information and seeing you personally I would not be able to make a diagnosis. I have successfully treated many people with Insomnia, not one person has had te same treatment plan however.

Some good natural remedies that can help include:
* Warm milk and nutmeg about 20 minutes before going to bed
* A brisk walk and 10 minute cool down with stretches before going to bed
*Keeping yourself more active throughout te day so your body actually ‘craves’ rest.
* Brething and Yoga stretches for the lmphatic system
* Avoid stimulants after 7pm (coffee, most tea, sugar)

In the end, insomnia is not just a condition that can be fixed with a drug or herb, it is a result of an un-balanced lifestyle, so the way to fix it is changing something with the cause, not the effect.

Hope this helps, please let me know how you go

Lisa asks…

What are the side effects of insomnia?

I am curious because I can have really bad insomnia depending on a variety of things.

Sometimes I feel like my body is physically shutting down and my heart rate becomes abnormal. I am curious, what are the possible long-term effects insomnia may cause?
Lemuel T- thank you.

Insomnia Stress answers:

Well, it depends on what type of insomnia it is, whether primary (sleeping is your only problem) or secondary (in which it is caused by other diseases).

Either way, it can wreck your prefrontal cortex, which handles logical reasoning ang “fight or flight” reflex, making you feel very soft and weak.

After a week, you may experience hypertension and a little bit of paranoia.

Go consult your doctor if you feel it’s getting worse.

Steven asks…

How can I get over this fear of insomnia?

I have been worrying that I’ll develop insomnia for about a year now & I can’t seem to make it stop. Every time I know I have to get up early, I worry that I’m not going to be able to fall asleep; and therefore, it prevents me from falling asleep. How can I stop worrying about this?
I know I sound really stupid…

Insomnia Stress answers:

You’re fear of insomnia is going to give you insomnia if you don’t stop. I have trouble sleeping a lot too. Best thing I can tell you is try not to care if you fall asleep and just relax. And turn the alarm clock away from you. The worst thing you can do is to keep checking the time…

Your Questions About Health Net

William asks…

What is the best Prescription D program?

I’m on Social Security Disability. There are about 26 companies to choose from. I’ve narrowed it down to RxAmerica, WellCare, Health Net, etc. that I do not have to pay monthly premium. There are more choices but what do you think.?

Insomnia Stress answers:

Call up Medicare…the 800 #.

They will go over all your meds with you to see if they are on the formularies of the companies you are interested in & you can compare the co-pays.

Also ask your pharmacist which program he would suggest. He would have experience with how smoothly the companies work.

I live in NY and have heard that Humana & AARP are good.

Good luck to you. It’s all pretty overwhelming.

Linda asks…

Do you believe medical ethics forbids the use of medicine in practice or substance for acts of harm?

The distrust created out of this situation is warranted.

Is there someone or a group of persons the Taliban would trust or suggest to adminster the vaccinations? They can even adminster them themselves with the right training.

Michael asks…

What does Obama Care mean for us?

My husband makes a little less than 20k a year…we have 2 kids (8 and 5), they have MO Health Net. Hubby works for a small business with 10 or less employees and they do not provide an option for insurance (yet). i will be glad to answer any questions.

Insomnia Stress answers:

Given the size of your family and your husband’s income, you should be eligible for a subsidy if you elect to go with Obamacare. But if you have health care insurance now, don’t drop it. Obamacare will not start kicking in for four years. During that time, you will need to maintain your current insurance AND pay for Obamacare (unless you can offset the additional cost with subsidies.

Mandy asks…

Who is responsible for medical bills?

Kaiser kept granting me coverage even though I was to have Health Net (Medical). Now, they decided to start billing me for the services I recieved because their computer system made a mistake in approving my medical care.

Insomnia Stress answers:

Welcome to the wonderful world of US health care, where the patient is always responsible for payment.

I’m not sure I understand what happened here. If you received services from Kaiser, your coverage was through Kaiser and they should pay your claims per their plan guidelines. If you selected HealthNet and kept receiving treatment from a Kaiser provider for some reason, your coverage was through HealthNet and the claims that were denied by Kaiser should be submitted to HealthNet for payment.

If you were covered by Kaiser and they denied your claims anyway, they do have an appeals process you can go through to fight their denial of your claims. It is not a fast or easy process, though – insurance companies don’t concede defeat easily.

If you have health coverage through your employer, get them involved since they are probably the ones who screwed up and covered you under the wrong plan to begin with. See if you can be retroactively enrolled in HealthNet and bill the claims to them, or if your employer can assist in getting Kaiser to pick up the claims.

Good luck!

Susan asks…

Can fillings and extractions be done without making any co payments?

I want to be as thorough as can be so please don’t mind this long paragraph. I am 22 years old and this is my first time running across this situation I’m not sure if this is possible, but please I need some second opinions.. My daughter is 5 yrs old and she is covered under Health Net Healthy Families. Two months ago my daughter was referred by her primary dentist to a Children’s Dental bc they “specialized” in children, but when my daughter and I went to our appointment at the children’s dental my daughter wasn’t able to proceed with the procedure, she was still too scared. They said they wanted her to have a positive experience while she’s young and that they couldn’t force her either. They offered me if I wanted to reschedule or refer(which I doubt my daughter will cooperate the next visit) my daughter to the hospital so the doctors can put her under anesthesia and do all the treatments at once which includes 6 fillings and a extraction on her back molar. Since the Children’s dental only does white filling there is charge of $88. Healthy families only covers silver fillings. But with my daughter’s insurance and after the calculations we have to co pay $222… $100 deposit non-refundable to proceed with the treatment and then the difference of $122 at the day of treatment which is about 3-4 months from the deposit. I was thinking about calling Health net dental member services if they know anything about this, but I haven’t yet. Ultimately, I want to know if there are any other places out there that can do that treatment with out making any co payments?
Please help and thanks!
I wanted to compare other places to see if the co payment can be a little bit more cheap, but I know it’ll be a lot to research and plus my husband thought of this idea. I don’t want to pursue with his idea BC I’ve been trying to get my daughter’s teeth check up and fixed ever since she was about 4 and I don’t want her sugar buds to spread any more than it is now.
No, I did not try to stop my daughter. I encouraged her and went along with the dentist, but she wouldn’t sit for long or open her mouth for long and then started to cry. That’s when we had to stop it.

Insomnia Stress answers:

A little information I think should be considered on the use of the drug Versed( midazolam) that is used for Sedation for many Dental and Medical procedures…

I feel that if people were aware of the adverse effects of this drug they would Opt For Another Drug!
Erasing someones memory of what was done to them is wrong!! I would much rather be put completely out, not just sleepy with memory impairment.

In fact, many people who use Versed for ” IV Sedation,Conscious Sedation” Twilight Sedation, during a procedure are Awake For The Entire Procedure but remember nothing, often Believing They Were “Out” the whole time.

Versed (Midazolam) is an amnestic. It is also commonly used for minor procedures like setting broken bones, colonoscopies, endoscopies, dental procedures like extractions, conscious sedation, twilight sleep, so that patients won’t remember pain and discomfort.HOWEVER THAT DOES NOT MEAN THAT THOSE SENSATIONS WILL NOT BE EXPERIENCED!!!!Forgetting does not mean it did not happen!!

Here is a note from a Dentist Who uses Versed
I’ve used Versed 1000+ times during oral surgery procedures and I’ve never had a complaint. It’s a miracle drug because it is safe and it causes you to not remember an unpleasant experience. My answer to him is isn’t it better to have not experienced the pain than to have forgot it. No wonder you have had no complaints they have no memory of the procedure…..

My wife had her broken bone(Femur)set in the emergency room just before surgery to repair it. They gave her versed and I waited outside of the room and could hear her screaming in pain, they did not appear to be concerned as they told me she would not remember anything and she did not. BUT THAT DOES NOT MEAN THAT IT DID NOT HAPPEN AND THAT SHE DID NOT SUFFER

A note from an anesthesiologist

The other way is to have an anesthesiologist/anaesthetist give you sedation with propofol, which actually is a quick general anesthetic given IV. Instead of just taking away your memory of the procedure, propofol provides actual anesthesia, so that you don’t feel the scope going through your guts.

You should request an anesthesiologist, you almost always can get one. In the center where I work, you always get one, and many gastroenterologists work with anesthesiologists because it’s much easier for them to do the scoping when the patient is still, instead of writhing and moaning.

Amnesia does not take place for all patients!!!!!

Listen carefully when a Doctor tells a patient they should have a colonoscopy they are told you won’t remember anything and not you will not feel anything.

Your Questions About Fatigue Causes

Ruth asks…

How many people are still on medication yet still not better?

Medications don’t work, in fact they can make you worse. I used to think they did, i put my faith in them and the psychiatrist but was disappointed. I was on meds for over 10 years, and was suffering. I was so tired I couldn’t function or even get out of bed because of the fatigue it caused. One doctor had me on 5 different psychotropic drugs at once!!! I started to get symptoms of Tardive dyskinesia on Abilify. After dealing with the horrible side effects of anti-psychotics, another PHD insisted I take them again!!! She accused me of not wanting to get better when I refused to take them and while I was refusing, sent an electronic rx to the pharmacy for them. After that experience I realized how corrupted the field was.

PHD get free lunches and other goodies from pharmacy reps for prescribing their medications. The medication clinical trials are bias and ones that show negative results for the medications aren’t published. They only have the placebo effect which is powerful in itself. However, mostly they are dangerous and can cause permanent brain damage. I know first hand that medications made me worse and I see it in those around me. The pharmaceutical industry is corrupt, greedy, and deceptive and will tell any lies to get more profit. I have improved my mental state with an organic diet and exercise and feel better than I ever have on medication. These medications are poison.

I suggest everyone read about the corruption by reading one of the many books such as Unhinged: The Trouble with Psychiatry – A Doctor’s Revelations about a Profession in Crisis, Anatomy of an Epidemic: Magic Bullets, Psychiatric Drugs, and the Astonishing Rise of Mental Illness in America, The Emperor’s New Drugs: Exploding the Antidepressant Myth, and many others.

Insomnia Stress answers:

Hey
i just wanna say, you have a really cool pic of the scream!
Love it.
And um yeah about what you said.
Im not gonna lie, but i agree, but at the same time disagree with you.
Medications are dangerous. They can save, yet destroy a life. Psychotropic medications are even more dangerous. But people take them on their on behalf, they are not forced upon them.
Some respond differently then others. If it didn’t work for you, that does not mean it wont work for the rest of the world.
I know doctors who take anti-depressants and feel much better on them.
I have friends who are on these type of medications and feel find just minor side effects.
I myself was on psychotropic medications and i had a good and bad experience with them.
But yes you are right about the corruption. The field is corrupted by the pharmaceutical companies, but… Its just business.
This is why I am joining the health field, because if i do make it in, i would like to change things.

Truth is tho, some people need there medications to function at their best. For you obvs it was different.
But medication has to be administered along with talk therapy.
Many people just take the medication and hope for miracles. Not really how it works. You need the med and the proper form of therapy.

Anyways this is a topic that people can debate on until a good fight.
But, i think its worth it cause it may be a good fight.
But science is coming closer to better approaches on mental treatment options.
CBT is proven to be more affective then medication for certain disorders.
So again, we are making improvements.

Sharon asks…

What is it like to try to start a job with chronic pain / fatigue?

I have undiagnosed chronic pain and fatigue. Even after shopping for just a few hours I feel like I’m going to die if I don’t sit down. I’m afraid to try to get a job where I’m going to have to be on my feet (like McDonald’s). Has anyone tried this? Any suggestions?

Insomnia Stress answers:

Tell your boss. The best defense is exercise/pilates, swimming, leisure sports. Yoga helps immensely. I have CFS because of my hemorrhagic stroke and I tried numerous times to get in the job market. Try valerian and vitamin c,e. CFS is caused by musculature disorders like arthritis. Wouldn’t you know it I have early arthritis it developed when I was 27. Fibromyalgia is closely akin. Pilates helps me because I’m actively exercising my legs. Hope I helped

Lisa asks…

What causes nausea, and why is ginger so helpful to stop it?

Every time I am nauseous, I am always told to have ginger ale, or to chew some raw ginger, or to have something gingery. I always follow the advice of any one who tells me this, and when I do, I find that the ginger really helps. What causes nausea, and why is ginger so helpful to stop it?

Insomnia Stress answers:

There are several common causes of nausea and vomiting. Most causes of nausea either involve the gastrointestinal tract or are triggered by feelings of dizziness — or vertigo.

Some common causes of nausea:
-pregnancy
-infections
-food poisoning, or foodborne illness
-anxiety or stress
-alcohol intoxication
-fatigue
-brain injury
-vertigo
-motion sickness
-carbon monoxide poisoning
-reactions to medication
-dehydration
-food intolerance
-overeating

Infections that cause nausea usually affect the gastrointestinal system, but infections that lead to shortness of breath can cause nausea by depriving the brain of oxygen. Whenever the brain is affected by an illness or injury, there is always the possibility of it causing nausea. Vertigo, anxiety, stress, and fatigue all cause nausea by affecting the brain.

Ginger works directly on the digestive tract, and does not work through the central nervous system as some of the standard nausea medications do. Ginger has been studied for use as a preoperative treatment for reducing the postoperative nausea and vomiting which may be caused by anesthesia and surgery. Ginger can also be helpful for the relief of nausea caused by chemotherapy treatments.

In addition to curing nausea, the medicinal effects of ginger are also useful for treatment with the common cold, flu-like symptoms, headaches, and even painful menstrual periods. Ginger is a natural antihistamine and decongestant. It eases the symptoms of allergies and many other respiratory conditions, by dilating constricted bronchial tubes.

I hope this all helped!!

James asks…

Can fatigue cause minor/moderate short-term memory loss?

My friend walked from the store to his apartment extremely fatigued. He sat down on the swing near the apartment and couldn’t remember anything about the trip from the store to the swing. Then he went inside his apartment and partially remembered it.

Insomnia Stress answers:

When you cannot remember as well, it is sometimes a lack of oxygen.

When you cannot get enough oxygen, that is always bad.

Whether it is caused by lung problems, or heart problems, or other types.

Not enough oxygen means you cannot think as well as you could if enough.

So if you feel foggy, notice it, and try to do what you can, to get more you need.

Be safe. Hope things get better. If he feels it is serious, see a emergency room, or doctor. Now.

Joseph asks…

What could cause a rush to the head with dizziness, headache, face flush and nausea?

Every once in awhile I experience a spell that feels like the blood is running a full force to my head and causes a thumping in my head with a slight ache, dizziness, flush of face hotness and nausea.
My doctor checked for low blood sugar and high blood pressure.
Those have been ruled out. Is there anything else that could cause this?
It doesn’t have a pattern, just whenever it comes on.
Thanks!

Insomnia Stress answers:

Diabetes causes fatigue, dizziness and other problems, avoid sugar.
Get checked by an endocrinologist.

Your Questions About Stress Fracture Foot

Charles asks…

Should i play basketball on a stress fracture?

Ok so i have a supposed stress fracture in my left foot. I am going to the doctors tomorrow after school and am not sure if its certainly a stress fracture but i am pretty sure it is as it is not swollen and i don’t remember specifically hurting it and it seems to be an internal problem. Would it be a stupid idea to play basketball tonight?? Thanks

Insomnia Stress answers:

I fractured my foot awhile ago playing basketball actually I landed on it wrong. It didn’t swell up just hurt really bad. My opinion would be not to play basketball and wait until you see what the doctor has to say, because you could end up hurting yourself even further. But if you decide to anyways then take it easy.

Lizzie asks…

What can one do for a stress fracture?

My foot has been huring for a couple of weeks now. I had a doctor’s appointment for something else and decided to bring it up. She xrayed it and both she and the PA think it’s a stress fracture, though they were sending it off to a radiologist to read it (although, I’ve heard it’s hard to detect a stress fracture from an xray so… who knows what’s going on?). I have to wait until Monday to know anything for sure and get set up with an orthopedic doctor and get a boot and such, though, which is a problem because I work in retail and have no choice but to be on my feet for prolonged periods of time. Is there anything I can buy in terms of an ACE bandage or some sort of brace to wear for the weekend?

Insomnia Stress answers:

There’s not much more a person can do than to wear a brace and take calcium suppliments until about 8 weeks have passed. Sorry there’s not too much information on that coming from me.

Michael asks…

How to cause a stress fracture?

I jump a lot outside in my front yard and I want to know how to cause a stress fracture or a bad sprain or some way so that I can use crutches at school. I can’t fake it BTW.
I know, I’m crazy. I know I am. No matter what anyone says, I’m not chaning my mind. I will beilive when you say it sucks when I actually experience it.

Insomnia Stress answers:

Put on high heels and strap a piece of wood to the outside of ONE shoe. The jump off something several feet high.
To stress fracture, tap your wrist/ankle over and over agai all day long. It will eventually crack.

Nancy asks…

Military Disability for stress fractures and hip surgeries?

Wondering if anyone can tell me round the percentage i will recieve from disability when i get out. I have gotten stress fractures in my feet and ankles and had 2 hip surgeries and still having hip pain! If you have recieved disbility can you please just let me know a round about % i will get.

Insomnia Stress answers:

First off – there is no way to tell you even a guess as to what you will be rated as since each case and person is different. They will assign a diagnostic code to your condition, and under each diagnostic code are several different criteria for the different percentages you can be rated as due to the varying degree of your disability.

For your reference, I pulled out my 38 CFR for you and would advise you to google the following diagnostic codes :D

Ankles: 5270, 5271, 5272
Feet: 5284
Hip: 5250, 5254

David asks…

Is wakeboarding on a fractured foot bad?

I got a stress fracture on my outside sesmoid on my right foot about a month ago that’s still healing, and I’m trying to go wakeboarding in a few days. Would that put too much stress on my sesmoid and hurt it more?
I’m really not looking for life lessons and such here. All I want to know is medically whether or not wakeboarding can irritate a stress fracture.

Insomnia Stress answers:

Want some advice which usually applies to most situations? Well, you’re getting it anyway :

When in doubt, don’t.

When in doubt, don’t be a flippin num nut and go and do it anyway.

Trust your gut feeling, it’s there for a reason.

You get what you deserve, when you first practice to not observe.

“Oohh. Owwww. Doctor, it hurts when I do this.” man raises arm above head. The dr. Replies:

“Don’t do that.”

“Do you really believe EVERYTHING you read??”

“Hey, it has to be true, I found it on the internet.”

xxxxxxxxxx

Two weeks for a regular sprain to heal.
Six weeks for normal fractures.

And during those times it does not mean go cause additional stress on your injury unless you care to make it worse. Always do what you can tolerate has been my advice but only after at least two weeks of proper, zero activity healing.

Your Questions About Sleep Number Bed

Donald asks…

Has anyone bought a knock off of the Select Comfort Sleep Number bed??

We are pricing the Select Comfort Sleep Number bed and have noticed a lot of knock offs. Has anyone purchased a knock off brand and had good results??? Also anyone with the Select Comfort can you give me any feedback??

Insomnia Stress answers:

Hi, we just received our Select Comfort bed Friday! We are both now madly in love with our mattress. We got it through Select Comfort’s Factory Outlet. I believe sale prices were good thru 15th. I’m not sure if it is possible for me to post that phone # for you here. We saved about 500 bucks on the 5000 model. Ad I received in mail stated that they change fabrics etc., yearly and these are just ’06 models. Hey, at that kind of savings, who cares what year the fabric design belongs to!!! I wonder if you called the regular # and told them you wanted the outlet #, maybe they could help you? We also have friends that have had a Select Comfort bed for over 10 years, very basic model and they still say it is the best! Good luck, hope this helps you somehow!

William asks…

does anybody know how much one of those Select Comfort sleep number beds cost?

Select Comfort sleep number beds cost? I don’t want to contact the company & ask because i hate when sales people hound you for your name, phone number, & or address so they can call you back to harass you into buying stuff, & i don’t want to contact them via internet cause they sell your email address, & constantly email you asking if you are going to buy etc. just like calling them.

Insomnia Stress answers:

I paid $1500. 10 years ago, can’t imagine what it is now. Believe me you better want one really badly, I would not get mine if I knew about the problems. Make sure you get the number part(you can do otherwise),don’t get an extended model or the sheets don’t fit, and make sure another person does not want it too soft or it really does not work with the foam walls. There are too many cons for this thing. Buuuuut, please just get persistant on the phone and ask a local seller for a price range, telling them you just want to see if you can afford the thing!

Sandra asks…

How comfortable is it to have sex on a tempurpedic bed or sleep number?

I want to buy the tempurpedic bed or sleep number… But I still have sex, and I don’t want to buy it if I sink, or it feel like we on on hardwood floors.

Insomnia Stress answers:

You won’t :]

All beds are made with sex in mind, I mean apart from sleep on them, sex is the only thing we do in bed right?

Hope that helped (:

Laura asks…

Anyone own a Sleep Number Bed for back problem?

Love to hear if you love your Sleep Number Bed and if it is worth the money. I have lower back pain and nerve pain in my left leg. I am seeking to buy one of these, but love to hear advice and opinions on this type of bed. Please tell me the pros and cons of having this bed, including the price. Thanks so much!

Insomnia Stress answers:

I bought my Sleep Number Bed when I was pregnant. My husband likes a harder bed and I like a softer bed. It was the best purchase I have ever made, granted my husband still brings up the fact that I bought an $1800 bed but even listening to all his griping and complaining about the cost, it’s stil completely worth it. I love the fact that depending on how my body is feeling I can change the softness of the bed. It works wonders.

Thomas asks…

What is the best mattress to purchase?

I am looking for a new bed and I need something that will help me get a full nite sleep, my lasy bed was cheap and I was always tired in the morning so I am looking to pay more money for excellent quality I looked at sleep number beds and I wanted to know if there are any other mattresses that will help me get a great nite sleep.

Insomnia Stress answers:

We got a Tempurpedic mattress almost two years ago and we abslotely love it. It’s a bit pricey, but well worth it. Plus, they give you a trial period so you can return it if you don’t like it. We got the Deluxe, which is the mid-end model. I was hesitant at first, but now I’m sold. Good luck!

Your Questions About Insomnia Symptoms

Ken asks…

Is it possible to have withdrawal symptoms from Oxycodone after only 1 week?

I had nasal surgery a week ago and was prescribed Oxycodone for pain. I only took it for about 6 days but now I’m having this horrible insomnia. Could it be withdrawal from the Oxycodone even though I didn’t take it that long?

Insomnia Stress answers:

One of the side effects of Oxycodone is insomnia. If you took it for a week, and have totally stopped taking it do not worry about it. However, if you have continued to take it when you do not need it you have become dependant upon it. Stop cold turkey and you will be fine.

Good luck

Mandy asks…

What Are The Symptoms Of About To Start Having Your First Period?

I’ve been having some cramps on and off for a few weeks, getting more discharge than is normal for me. Then suddenly today I am sore above my pelvi area like my lower abdomen. I have under arm hair, starting getting my chest about late last year early this year. I have pubic hair also. I’ve been moody and getting frusrated more easily than usual and all that stuff. Can anyone list all the symptoms and maybe give me an estmate of when I’ll start?

Insomnia Stress answers:

Vaginal discharge is a sign that you may start your period soon, but sometimes ‘soon’ isn’t quite so soon. I had lots of discharge for about 3 months before I actually started.
Teenwire says this:
Here are some other changes you may notice around the time you get your first period:

* your hips getting wider
* hair growing under your arms and around your nipples and vulva
* sweating under your arms
* developing acne
* thick and whitish or slippery and clear vaginal discharge

Some girls and women — from 20-50 percent — experience physical or emotional discomfort that is known as premenstrual syndrome (PMS) about a week before menstruating, or during the first few days of menstruation.

Symptoms of PMS include depression and other mood changes, tender breasts, appetite changes, irritability, headaches, backaches, insomnia, sweating, difficult breathing, and fluid retention. PMS is more common in older women. (http://www.teenwire.com/ask/2005/as-2005…

Nancy asks…

When should I get symptoms and start showing?

I will be 4 weeks pregnant tomorrow with my second. Everyone tells me symptoms and starting to show happens sooner with the second, when should I expect?

Insomnia Stress answers:

This is my second. Here’s when my stuff happened:

Baby 1 started morning sickness at 6 weeks (severe). Little (but some) actual sickness with 2, but quite a lot of nausea starting as early as week 7

Started showing about the same time – aroud 14-15 weeks with a pronounced baby bump athough in a sweatshirt at 20 weeks you still can’t really tell.

Heartburn and insomnia started earlier with the 2nd – around 10-12 weeks. Round ligament pain earlier with 2nd – around 13-14 weeks.

FELT the baby MOVE way earlier this time!! Started around 15 weeks with the flutters (probably because I knew what I was looking for). I didn’t feel my son until I knew he was a son:)

FATIGUE has been way worse with this pregnancy all around from the beginning. Most people say it’s because im chasing a toddler, which is probably true. But also I think it’s me being 4 years older, and just the general toll of pregnancy.

Anyway, this is just me but hope this helps!:)

Lizzie asks…

Laura asks…

How to cure insomnia and early awaken problem?

I have insomnia and early awaken problem everyday for two weeks now, I got a lack of sleep. What should I do ?
I feel not good, because I went to bed late I still need sometime to go to sleep and when I don’t set the alarm clock… I still wake up so early..

Insomnia Stress answers:

Hey,

I have a couple of suggestions based on my experience and research. 5 different ways that you can consider and try…

1. Sleep Earlier
The most straightforward remedy is to actually shift your biological clock slightly. That way your body might not wake up too early anymore.

2. Take Power Naps
After lunch is the best time for sure, but try to squeeze in at least 1 or 2 additional naps later in the day. Keep them to 20 minutes each and you might have found a lifesaver.
A key benefit is that you’ll be able to reduce your stress levels through this approach. This will hopefully also impact your ability to sleep a full long night later on.

3. Practice Yoga
Yoga, and Pilates, has an inherent stress-reducing effect. Just through winding down a bit and focusing on one single thing, both your mood and energy can improve.

4. Try Bright Light Therapy
I totally understand if you ask…
How can being exposed to bright light make me sleep better? According to a study: In short, by exposing the participants to bright light during two evenings, they managed to postpone their circadian rhythm (temperature cycle) and thereby altering their biological clock. The results, even after four weeks, were remarkable. In general, the exposed participants slept more, woke up later and had less negative daytime symptoms.

5. Start Medication
If you’ve tried all the methods out there, then medication might be the only way towards getting better.

I hope one of these methods will help you! I wish you the best.

What are good dinner recipes?

I need some unique and tasty dinner recipes that are easy to prepare and fairly healthy. Thanks!

Insomnia Stress answers:

SIMPLE ARROZ CON POLLO

4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
1 lb hot italian sausage
1 lg green pepper, chopped
1 lg red pepper, chopped
1 tbs garlic, minced
1/2 cup chopped onion, chopped
1 pkg yellow rice or saffron rice, family sized
salt & pepper
hot sauce
good grade olive oil

Coat the bottom of a large fry pan or saute pan with olive oil. Over med high heat, saute garlic and onion in the oil until tender but not browned.

Cut the chicken breasts into 1.5″ chunks. Remove the sausage from its casings and crumble into small pieces. Add the chicken and sausage to the garlic and onion mixture; salt and pepper to taste. Saute the mixture, stirring frequently.

When the meats are almost cooked through, add the chopped pepper and continue to saute until done.

Add the rice and any packaged seasonings to the mixture and stir. Add water (according to package directions) and hot sauce to taste and stir.

Cover and simmer until water is absorbed, approx. 25 minutes or according to package directions.

Fluff with fork and serve.

Chorizo can be substituted for the Italian sausage.

Frozen peas may be used instead of the pepper. If so, add them when the rice and water is added to the pan.

Ruth asks…

What is your favorite healthy dinner and recipe?

I am a breakfast fiend and love packing colorful lunches with plenty of fresh fruit and veggies…but lately, dinner has me completely uninspired. I love cooking and baking, but I’m having some trouble branching out.
I would love some new ideas that are both tasty and healthy!

Please share the website link to your favorite dinner recipe.

Thanks ahead of time! ;-)

Insomnia Stress answers:

Meal idea 1:
-1 lean chicken breast (146 cal)
-Wrap the chicken in a slice of prosciutto (Parma) ham (42cal)
-Half a small jacket potato with NO cheese or butter (80 cal)
-Add any veg! I like mine with broccoli and carrots.

Meal idea 2:
-chop up loads and loads of veg like: Brussels, mushrooms, carrots, onions, peppers, celery, parsnips, fine beans, tomatoes, baby sweet corn, courgettes
-cook in a wok and fry using CAL LITE spray (no oil!)
-add 40g serving of Salsa to the veg
-grill an open top pepper (cut the top off and take out the seeds etc)
-stuff the salsa veggies in the pepper
-quite a small meal so you could have two stuffed peppers or just add a side like a small chicken breast of pork medallions or mash potatoe

Ken asks…

What are some quick but healthy dinner ideas?

I won’t be able to start dinner till about 6:15 and my daughter’s bed time is 7:30. I”d like some quick, healthy dinner ideas.

Insomnia Stress answers:

Prep time is going to be a problem. It is easy to make part of a meal in 30 minutes, but to do everything els will make the meal take closer to 60 minutes to cook.

Try this
Home-Style Hamburger Hash Recipe
1 pound lean ground beef
4 cups frozen potatoes O’Brien with onions and peppers
1 can (11-oz. Size) whole kernel corn with red and green peppers, undrained
3/4 cup water
1 teaspoon beef-flavor instant bouillon
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley, if desired
Brown ground beef in large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat until thoroughly cooked, stirring frequently. Drain.

Add all remaining ingredients except parsley; mix well. Reduce heat to medium; cover and cook 20 minutes or until potatoes are tender, stirring occasionally. If desired, season with salt and pepper to taste. Sprinkle with parsley.
